Teaching at Norton Conyers
Lovely day teaching at my Norton Conyers studio today: we discussed the notion of ‘background’ in painting: a concept I dislike and to illustrate it’s absence we had a look at the work and methods of Cezanne. I did a short demonstration, loosely copying one of Cezanne’s delicate landscapes and then to make the most of a beautiful late summer afternoon and bearing in mind what we’d learnt, we went out to paint in the landscape.
