Bolton Castle

Probably the most visited of the Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale has a softer beauty than those to the north and south of it. Bolton Castle was built by Sir Richard le Scrope, Lord Chancellor of England to Richard II and completed in 1399; the Castle dominates the northerly slopes to the lower end of the dale. This painting was done in the studio, from drawings completed in situ.
